Project overview

This client was in the process of building a new four-bedroom home in the Greater Manchester area. Rather than opting for a fossil fuel-fuelled heating system, he was looking for advice and support with air source heat pumps and solar PV solutions.

Services provided

We performed a full, in-depth heat loss calculation using the floor plans of the property and information on the building materials provided by the client. After considering the specification and requirements of the property, we opted for the Daikin Altherma 3 H HT air source heat pump, as well as a 300L Daikin heat pump cylinder to ensure plenty of domestic hot water for the client.

When it came to the solar PV array, we chose a 5kW in-roof solar PV array, linked into a 13kWh Tesla power wall battery. The system that we installed consisted of 16 x All Black 320 Watt Monocrystalline solar panels installed into a GSE in roof tray system, all linking into a 5.2kW Solis inverter.

What happened?

Being a new build project, we were able to start from scratch when it came to our solutions, with the end goal being maximum energy efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and significant, long-term cost-savings. Our team liaised with the client extensively both before and during the project, ensuring our final installation provides optimum results and continues to serve the property for years to come.

Our team’s choice for the Daikin Altherma 3 H HT air source heat pump was guided by its futuristic sharp design, meaning that it would blend in seamlessly with the intended contemporary design of the property. The unit is also ultra quiet at just 38dBA in standard running mode and 35dBA in low noise mode, reducing any future disruption to the client’s daily life.

As part of the project, we also installed underfloor heating to the entire ground floor of the property, and radiators to the first floor, in order to maximise the heat pump’s effectiveness and efficiency.

Results

The client now has a modern, brand new home complete with future-proofed heating and electrical systems that maximise efficiency, while also providing long-term cost savings.
